The role of education in dog bite
prevention has been studied and many published reports are
available.
Doggone Safe has compiled and
reviewed the available reports and the dog bite statistics where
available.

Many dog
bites go unreported because people think that this is not a big
deal, just a normal part of childhood, like falling off a bike.
When we ask groups of children, "have you ever been bitten by a
dog" a shocking 50-75% say yes. Ask a group of adults if they
were bitten as a child, and about 75% will say yes. They will
also remember the details of the dog bite incident more clearly
than memories of other types of childhood injury. This type of
information is not in the published literature, but you can do
your own survey to see for yourself. Ask your class and your
fellow teachers - you may be surprised what you find out!
